Today I am proud to celebrate the great Bob Uecker, one of the most hilarious and lovable people to ever live. Uecker parlayed a below average baseball career into a fifty years and counting career in movies, TV and broadcasting with his masterful self-deprecation and endless charm.
Before Major League, Uecker’s big coming out party was his many appearances in Miller Lite’s game-changing commercials of the late seventies and eighties starring a bar full of ex-jocks having a good ol’ time with America’s favorite water substitute.
I plan on covering more Miller Lite ads from this golden age in another post, but this one is all about THE UECK!!!!
Front Row!
This may be the most well known of Uecker’s commercial and is a great introduction to the character of Bob Uecker- the irrepressibly optimistic lovable loser. This ad had such an impact (in Milwaukee, at least) that they placed the statue portraying the longtime Voice of the Brewers in Section 422 of Miller Park.
Mr. Baseball
Aww, come on guys! Let him in.
I Would Watch the Winter Olympics But Only If Bob Uecker Wins Every Event
He couldn’t hit a curve ball, but man what a bobsledder!
Lite-A-Mania
A lot of these Miller Lite commercials just become a mess starring a cast of thousands. And they really love a good unmasking gag.
The Case of the Missing Case
Good lord. Really leaning on the mask gags hard. And of course, Rodney Dangerfield turned out to be Uecker because in many ways, they’re the same guy. One more? Okay, one more.
That One Bar Where You Can Buy Cases Of Beer With Baseball Cards
This place rules. Hope it opens back up post-pandemic.
Tubin’ Linx
Just One of Uecker’s Many, Many Appearances on The Tonight Show
But Wait!!! Wasn’t There a Miller Lite Commercial About Haley’s Comet? You Got It!!!
